The name was given by me , you can also call arrow root Halwa or Arrow root Pudding
When you first see these defnitely you will think they are Kinnathappam ,or a pudding but even if you taste you wont understand . This is a traditional Iftar recipe mainly in Thrissur areas. The recipe is soo simple that it will done in hardly 15 mins and take little time to mcool down …… 🙂 this is a must try and it will a huge hit
Arrow root is also known as Koova podi (In malayalam ) and is really good for Stomach , it has so many special qualities .
This Eid i made these in my cousins House , as they all loved it . So lets GO straight away in to the recipe
Arrow root cubes
Ingredients
- Arrow root Powder/ Koova podi – 1 cup *
- Sugar – 1 cup
- Coconut milk – 2 1/2 cup*
- Water 1/2 cup
- Cardamon powder- 1/2 tsp
Method
- Grease and keep a tray aside
- You need a heavy bottom pan
- Add Arrow root powder , sugar , Cardamon powder, coconut milk and water into the pan and mix well without lumps
- Now keep the pan in flame, Flame should be in medium range
- Use a wooden spoon to stir well , in 5 minutes you can see it starts to get thick
- Keep on mixing until The mixture is thick enough and leaves from the sides
- Transfer to the greased tin and use the back of the spoon to polish the surface
- Set aside and once cool keep in fridge
- Once cooled completely cut into cubes and serve
*Points to Note
- Arrow root is available in all supermarkets, you may ask them if not found in rack
- Use the same cup to measure all ingredients
- I used Coconut Powder , i mixed 5 tbsp of powder in 2 1/2 Glass of water
- I have not added any raisins or cashews , its better to make it simple ;
- if you need you may add so , please don’t add any color to it , natural taste is better
- Once the mixture starts to thick mix well and transfer to pan immediately
